Overview
Simply put, Mugasha makes it really easy to listen to Electronic Music podcasts and long sets from world famous DJs. Think of us as Hulu.com for some of the most popular dance music sets in the world. We "chop up" the sets to enable users to easily skip and browse through the songs in each set.
Our DJs include: Tiesto, Markus Schulz, Andy Moor, Matt Darey, Menno de Jong, Roger Shah amongst many others!
We create an experience around this music that you can share with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc. as well as buy music, and concert tickets. We are focused on delivering the best music listening experience on the internet.
Mission
Mugasha's mission is to help artists build stronger brands and monetize on their art in new ways. We will create a service that fans love and enable them to enjoy music when, where, and how they want to.
Company
Mugasha started as a small project at Startup Weekend in Portland, OR. The idea sprung out of Akshay's painful music listening experience. As an avid listener of DJ sets, he found it tedious to download sets each week from different artists and then try to guess the names of the songs he was listening to. A few months after that weekend, Akshay and Justin decided to build Mugasha, a service that would provide a better music listening experience to other people who love electronic music.
- Mugasha launched in public beta at Demolicious on January 7th, 2009.
- Mugasha was one selected as one of the Finalists for SXSW 2008 Accelerator.
- Launched publicly on August 20th, 2009.
Team
Akshay Dodeja
CEO and Co-Founder
Bringing a well rounded set of development chops, business savvy, and design eye, Akshay is a builder. Skilled in both hardware and software design, his passion is in software development. Akshay first conceived Mugasha to solve his own problem: DJ sets weren't easy enough to find and were a pain to listen to. Not surprisingly, he is the most active user on Mugasha, having listened to over 4000 tracks.
Akshay developed Mugasha from the ground up and continues to be Mugasha's primary developer. His ability to innovate and quickly implement make Mugasha incredibly agile. As CEO, Akshay is the face of Mugasha and his vision sets the course of the company and leads our team.
Justin Thiele
COO and Co-Founder
Justin is passionate about solving problems and creatively building businesses. After graduating with a degree in Entrepreneurship, Justin served a term in the cubicle world. Not content with the 9-5, he dabbled in a few ventures before starting a design boutique called Inkblot Robot with his wife, Alissa.
As COO, Justin handles many of the day to day business duties of Mugasha as well as serving as the Head of Marketing, where he creates new ways to reach the Mugasha audience. Not to be limited to just a "business guy", Justin brings skills in user-experience, design, and a power user mentality.
